Working with others

Absorbing & Applying Feedback

Feedback is about the work, not your worth. Learners practice hearing it, sorting it and using it.

4 sessions · adapts to all four learner tiers (K–college)

Core tool

Hear it, Sort it, Use it

Hear it without defending. Sort each comment into "use now," "ask about" or "set aside." Use one piece right away.

Before you start: quick self-check

Rate each line from 1 (not yet) to 5 (definitely) before session 1, then again after your Real-World Rep.

The sessions

4 sessions, three beats each.

Every session runs Hook → Rep → Reflect, so learners know what to expect each time.

  1. Session 1

    Work ≠ Worth

    Hook5–10 min

Coach's-eye clip or story: an athlete gets corrected and improves

    Rep10–30 min

Write "The feedback is about ___, not about me" for three sample comments

    Reflect5–10 min

Write one line on your Rep Card: what I tried, what happened, what I'll try next.

  2. Session 2

    The Sting Is Normal

    Hook5–10 min

Name the body's reaction to criticism (hot face, urge to argue)

    Rep10–30 min

Receive practice feedback and respond only with "Thanks, tell me more"

    Reflect5–10 min

Write one line on your Rep Card: what I tried, what happened, what I'll try next.

  3. Session 3

    Sort the Pile

    Hook5–10 min

A stack of mixed feedback on one project: helpful, vague, unkind

    Rep10–30 min

Sort each comment into Use / Ask / Set Aside

    Reflect5–10 min

Write one line on your Rep Card: what I tried, what happened, what I'll try next.

  4. Session 4

    Revise and Resubmit

    Hook5–10 min

Show a first draft and its improved version side by side

    Rep10–30 min

Revise one piece of their own work using one comment; share the before and after

    Reflect5–10 min

Write one line on your Rep Card: what I tried, what happened, what I'll try next.

Real-World Rep

Ask someone for feedback on one thing you made this week. Use one comment and log the result.

By age

How it adapts for each learner tier.

K–5

Sprouts

20 min sessions

"Two Stars and a Wish" drawing critique. Kids practice saying "thank you" and trying the wish on a second drawing.

6–8

Builders

30 min sessions

Peer review of a short paragraph or poster with sentence starters ("One thing that worked…" / "One thing to try…").

9–12

Launchers

40 min sessions

Essay or lab report with teacher-style comments; students write a revision plan. Add a mock job-interview debrief.

College

Leaders

50 min or self-paced sessions

Bring a real graded paper or supervisor note. Draft a professional reply email and a three-step revision plan. Practice asking a professor for feedback in office hours.
